Areas of practice

Stephen Robson SC was admitted to legal practice in New South Wales in 1994 after an early career in courts administration. He then practised as solicitor-advocate with the NSW Crown Solicitor’s Office before being appointed as the Commission Solicitor for the NSW Police Integrity Commission (now the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission) in 2001.



Stephen was called to the New South Wales Bar in 2005 where he predominantly conducted a criminal defence practice while also appearing in equity, family law and judicial review cases.


In 2009 he moved from Sydney to Alice Springs to take up an appointment as a crown prosecutor. Over the ensuing 10 years, as a senior crown prosecutor and an assistant Director of Public Prosecutions, he prosecuted numerous jury trials and appellate matters. 


In 2019 he took silk and joined the NT Bar and in January 2026 became a member of Murray Chambers, Darwin.


Stephen is highly regarded as a trial and appellate advocate, with appearances in numerous complex cases including homicide, infant (shaken baby) manslaughter, international drug importation and serious sex offending. Since 2010 he has appeared regularly before the Full Court of the Northern Territory Supreme Court on behalf of appellants and respondents.


With decades of diverse experience to draw upon, Stephen accepts private, government and legal aid briefs in a broad range of criminal, civil and appellate matters.
